What is a Bong?

A bong is a decorative pipe through which a mixture of herbal smoke is filtered through water into a chamber, enabling the user to enjoy a smooth and luxurious smoke, whilst experiencing the effects of the herb.

Normally a bong is filled with cold water or even ice, so that the smoke is cooled down before inhaling. There are, as you might expect, many variations of bongs such as carbon filters, which have the effect of filtering more impurities and toxins giving a much cleaner and smoother smoke, these are becoming more common on modern glass bongs.

A further variation on the standard bong is a gravity bong, which has a top and bottom chamber; the top chamber is filled with water and the herb bowl is lit, as the water filters into the bottom chamber it draws the smoke into the top chamber ready to smoke. This type of bong gives you an extreme and concentrated amount of smoke as you inhale.

The bong is available in a variety of decorative shapes, colours and sizes  and can be made of various materials such as acrylic, glass or ceramics, but they all serve the same purpose; a means of burning a herbal mixture to create a relaxing effect.
