Golden root is a plant that grows in the northern cold regions of the world including the Arctic, Scandinavia, Iceland as well as the mountain ranges in central and Eastern Europe. The perennial plant grows in areas 2280 metres above seal level, the shoots growing up to a height of 35cm. Golden root complex is dioecious, which means that male and female plants are required to produce the microspores and the megaspores.

The official botanical Latin name for Golden root is rhodiola rosea but it is known by various names throughout the world. It can be referred to as Roseroot or Aaron’s Rod; on the eastern fringes of the Steppes the people there have been using Siberian Rose or Zolotoy koren for centuries while hong jing tian is an ingredient in traditional Chinese medicine.

Golden root is stimulating, but is not a typical stimulant like nicotine. It belongs to a class of plants that herbalists call adaptogens, natural herbs that rejuvenate the body and make it more resistant to stressors such as tiredness and anxiety. It is thought to do this by increasing dopamine and seratonin in the brain.

There are few side effects to the intake of golden root but it is best to avoid late in the evening close to bedtime.
